Musical Fiction

I read this at the book store today. It's an excerpt from the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho that I really want to read now!

"The alchemist knew the story of Narcissus, a youth who knelt daily beside a lake to contemplate his own beauty. He was so fascinated by himself that, one morning, he fell into the lake and drowned. At the spot where he fell, a flower was born, which was called the narcissus.

But this was not how the author of the book ended the story.

He said that when Narcissus died, the goddess of the forest appeared and found the lake, which had been fresh water, transformed into a lake of salty tears.
"Why do you weep?" the goddesses asked.
"I weep for Narcissus," the lake replied.
"Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus," they said, "for though we always pursued him in the forest, you alone could contemplate his beauty close hand."
"But...was Narcissus beautiful?" the lake asked.
"Who better than you to know?" the goddesses said in wonder. "After all, it was by your banks that he knelt each day to contemplate himself!"
The lake was silent for some time. Finally, it said:
"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected."

I was also looking at a book on Dali's work and came across this. Weiiird right??

The Metamorphosis of Narcissus by Salvador Dali

In other news, Vince and I have been cleaning and throwing away old stuff and while he was going through his files he found this one comic I made for him back in 2008! It's basically a summation of our friendship, absolutely nothing has changed since then except that, well, we have a cat now and we live together.

The story of this comic goes like this: One day I was really bored at work cuz it was a week day and super slow so I decided to spend my time efficiently and draw a comic. I had, up to that moment, made a complete summation of Vince's character so I had a lot of stuff to work with. I thought to myself, "What makes him tick? What does Vince think of life? What would he do if he had a million dollars?" I spent a long time trying to simplify the complexities of a uhhh super complex man, and after 5 minutes I finally decided which facet of amazingness I would depict in my comic: VINCE AT WORK.

So I made the comic and showed it to him and he liked it so I made him a copy of it. A few days later I was laying in bed at my moms being super bored when I had an amazing idea! My lil' bro is super good at making flash animations, so I bribed him with $20 to animate my comic! He already had the story board all he had to do was bring it back to life! SO he started animating it and then I got ANOTHER amazing idea!! Why not have Vince and me make the voices for our characters! Now, keep in mind that our amazing friendship was juuuust beginning to blossom, so I didnt think that when I texted him "HAY COMEOVER RIGHT NAO GOTTA DO SUMTHIN COOOOOL" he was actually gonna show up. But then he did! And then I said, "HAY remember that super amazing comic I made?? We're gonna animate it NAO AND UR MAKING UR OWN VOIIIZE" he was a good sport about it and actually did it which was amazing. A few weeks and a lot of nagging later, my bro finished the animation and it was the most epic thing ever in the history of epic things.

I forgot to take a pic of the actual comic so I'll post that up when I get the chance... or I could be hardcore creeper and sneak in to Vince's room right now while he's sleeping and rummage through his closet...

Ladies and gentlemen, I now present for your viewing pleasure...

VINCE GOES TO WORK!

PS You probably need to have a flash enabled web browser to view this epicness through your mobile devices.

Oh man I can't stop watching it its soooo funny! Gonna go sleep now. Can't breathe. Its the sickness!
