Kites

I got my new glasses the other day. Its crazy... I can see so much better now! I guess I didn't realize how bad my eye sight really was until that fateful day that I put on Eric's glasses and all of a sudden the world came into focus. Guess I gotta stop staring into $45 flash lights...

In other news, Vince and I had a much needed fun and lazy Sunday. Sometimes it feels like life is carrying you away so fast, down a heavy current of worry, stress and frustration. Its hard to stop and just enjoy the fact that you're alive, that you can breathe in the scents of summer, that you can hear the symphony of crickets and frogs out in the back yard as soon as the sun starts to set. What better way to appreciate life than by flying a kite? Vince splurged and got me a Jake Sully kite! We flew it pretty hard, right at sunset. Jake Sully is always happiest when he's flying :)

I started thinking about people and their sanctuaries. Everyone has something different that calms them down and makes them feel safe. Nimbus' sanctuary is the window sill. He knows he probably wont ever go outside but he sits up there every day and lays out in the sun and sleeps and I think he has kitty dreams about running outside and chasing birds and butterflies. Or maybe making babies with a nice lady cat. Some people enjoy throwing themselves into their work because they know its something they have control over even if other things seem uncertain. Other people immerse themselves in books and live in someone else's shoes for a few hours a day because it's nice to pretend you're someone interesting for a while. We gotta remember to never let go of the things that keep us sane, even if we're only sane for a little while a day. Cuz if we don't have books or work or window sills to run to after a horrible day, then we aint got nothin.

So I hurt my back yesterday. I guess having too much fun will kill you! Except death knows I aint got no beef with him so he just settled with messing up my back. I don't know how I did it, but it's spasming all over the place that that one time last year. I took some meds and Ive been icing my back all day to bring the inflammation down. Its not as bad as last year and Im assuming its cuz this time im doing something about it (kinda) instead of just dealing with the pain. I hope it goes away soon, last time it lasted a good week. I wish I could stop being so old. If my back is this bad NOW, i cant imagine how much worse its gonna get when Im a grandma.

I've been reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Errbody knows that I love me reading books that are being turned into movies. And the movie comes out soon! So I bought the book off the internet and Im almost done with it. Ill probably finish it by tonight. The book is interesting, it takes place in 1963 in Mississippi. You see the same story from three different womans points of view, you have the two black maids Aibileen and Milly and then a white woman named "Skeeter" who wishes to be a writer, so one day she decides that she is going to write about what its like to be a maid in Mississippi. She begins to interview local maids but a lot of them aren't willing to talk because of all the things that are happening to black people in town. This is all taking place during the Civil Rights movement, Skeeter thinks is a hot topic to cover so people, people of all colors, can see the good and the bad about waiting on white people in Mississippi. Yup, its a good read. I suggest you all go read it right now! I think IM gonna go read it right now actually.

Guess that's all for now!
